New coach, new season loom for London Nationals as Jr. B start nears

Colin Martin won’t have to wait long to face his old team.

The new London Nationals head coach’s first home game will be against the Komoka Kings Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Western Fair. The former London Knights player left his Kings post last week to take the Nats job.

The Nationals will open their 2021-22 regular season Friday, Sept. 24, in St. Thomas against the Stars. They are due to wrap up the campaign March 12 against LaSalle.

The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League unveiled its 625-game schedule Monday, intending to end a 561-day stretch without meaningful games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each of the league’s 25 clubs will play 50 games. The top prospects/future stars event will be held in Waterloo either Dec. 28 or 29 and the showcase weekend (two games per team in front of OHL, school and pro scouts) will run Jan. 21-23 in Pelham.

The top eight teams from each of the three conferences will advance to the playoffs, which are set to begin March 16.
